You've gotten the specifications down and had the job quoted. You
are about to award your job to one of two candidates. One is a
WCBA member, the other is not. Before you decide, consider that
the Association member has already decided to improve himself
realizing that a trade association is his best route. Since
becoming a member, he has had the opportunity to attend training
seminars, to be advised regularly of new products and techniques,
he is more likely to be aware of local building codes that will
keep your project from hitting a snag with local officials. As an
Association member, he has been invited to trade shows and
conventions to help him seek out not only what's new, but to find
the greatest values for his customers. Joining the WCBA says that
he is confident in his skills and proud of his reputation, after
all, regularly he will be standing shoulder-to-shoulder with his
peers. He knows, too, that if a complaint is received by the WCBA,
these same peers will conduct a review of the situation. And, an
Association member is simply more visible, to his other
association members, his suppliers, subcontractors and to the
buying public — for the professional in the building trade who
succeeds through good referrals — it is this visibility that is
his lifeblood.
A membership is more than annual dues and a handful of
benefits, for the professional in the building trade, a membership
in the Washington County Builders Association is often a clear
indication of how he views his profession; a view that can mean a
great deal in the satisfaction that you ultimately derive from
your building project.
